Last night the WBFD hosted a rural water movement drill in Lower Heidelberg Township along side some of our neighboring departments. The goal of the drill was to get personnel training time on multiple tasks associated with successfully supplying water to a fire normally in a non hydranted area. A fill site was established from the Spring Creek off of Wooltown Road which was then shuttled to Palm Road where the dump site was located. Crews utilized Rescue Engine 18 and Ladder 18 for drafting and master stream operations. During a 2 hour water shuttle evolution consiting of a nearly 3 mile shuttle, crews were able to transport 35 loads of water totaling over 105,000 gallons of water. We would like to thank the below departments who participated in the drill. #teamWBFD

This morning shortly after 10:30am the WBFD was dispatched to assist the Western Berks Ambulance Association with the rescue of a patient on the Blue Marsh Lake trail system in Lower Heidelberg Township. Crews were advised of an injured mountain biker near milepost 3.3 with best access from State Hill Road boat launch parking area. ATV 18-3 and ATV 18-4 were deployed with fire and EMS personnel to make patient contact. Crews were able to make contact within a few short minutes and EMS began patient care. The injured mountain biker was extricated with ATVs to an awaiting ambulance.

These types of calls are low frequency-high risk due to patient access, location, and injury severity. The WBFD has two ATVs in our fleet for these types of rescues in order to be able to quickly locate and remove the patient, and provide them with medical care as quickly as possible. #teamWBFD

Had a great time today being part of the Wernersville Public Library’s SummerQuest 2022 program. Where our personnel read during story time and gave a tour of Engine 18-1.
