Vehicle Accident in Wernersville Borough

 October 4, 2020

On Saturday October 3rd around 11:20pm the WBFD was dispatched to a motor vehicle accident with injuries in the 100 block of West Penn Ave in Wernersville Borough.  Engine 18-2 and Rescue 18 arrived on scene with a single vehicle that had struck a pole and came to rest in the eastbound lane of Penn Ave.  Crews from Rescue 18 provided patient care until EMS arrived.  Additional crews from Engine 18-2 assisted with fluid mitigation and debris removal.  The roadway was closed in both direction for approximately 45 minutes while crews worked to clear the scene.  Once the vehicle was removed from the roadway by the tow company, the road was reopened.  We were assisted by the Western Berks Ambulance Association and the South Heidelberg Township Police Department.

Earlier this evening around 5:30pm the WBFD was dispatched to the 100 block of Belle Alto Road in South Heidelberg Township for a dumpster fire. As units went responding Berks DES advised of a dumpster that was being loaded with scrap vehicles had caught on fire. Fire crews arrived on scene and confirmed the report, had smoke and flames showing from the dumpster which was in close proximity of a barn. Engine 18-1 arrived and went in service with their deck gun to quickly knock down the bulk of the fire which was a potential threat to the nearby structure. A single handline was then deployed as additional resources arrived on scene to put out the remaining fire. Fire crews used a rotary saw to cut access points into the lower portion of the dumpster to ensure the fire was completely extinguished. The WBFD operated on scene for approximately 1 hour before returning. We were assisted by Tanker 42 from Cumru Township Fire Department and the South Heidelberg Township Police Department. ...
