Welcome to Western Berks Fire Department

The Western Berks Fire Department is a combination fire department in Berks County Pennsylvania which serves the residents of Sinking Spring Borough, Wernersville Borough, South Heidelberg Township and Lower Heidelberg Township.  The department was organized and placed “in-service” on August 8, 2009, designated as Berks County Company 18, when the four legacy departments from four separate municipalities were consolidated into one comprehensive department.

Today at approximately 1:29pm, Ladder 18 was dispatched as part of the 1st Alarm assignment assisting the Greenfields Fire Company - Bern Twp for a commercial structure fire. As crews arrived, they found fire in an exterior duct work filtration system. Multiple filters were removed from the system, which allowed crews to access internal spaces for fire suppression. Fire was contained to this unit.

Great job

Thermal fume dust collector likely on a steel cutting or welding application. Plenty of equipment available to prevent the need for a fire department's involvement. Lincoln should have provided it with their system.

Today at approximately 12:41pm, Ladder 18 was dispatched as part of the first alarm assignment for a residential structure in the 600Block of Grings Hill Rd assisting the Township of Spring Fire Rescue Services. Additional information was a vehicle into a residence that was smoking and still had a person inside. Upon arrival of fire units, they found negative fire but a vehicle accident with the driver trapped. Ladder 18’s crew assisted the crew from Rescue Engine 85 and Ladder 79, utilizing hydraulic rescue tools to remove the trapped driver.

Western Berks Fire Department

On May 9 at approximately 11:08pm, the WBFD and our automatic aid partners were dispatched to the 200Block of Saddlebrook Dr in Lower Heidelberg Township for a residential structure fire. Crews found a fire which had started in the wall of an attached garage, and had now spread to the outside of home, traveling vertically towards the second floor. Crews were able to get water on the fire quickly, and also removed siding and other structural components to access the seat and any hidden fire. Damage was limited to the garage area. The fire is currently being investigated by the PA State Police Fire Marshal Division.
